Alongside “Stepwise Approach to Lifelong Autonomy” – An interactive journey through end-of-life immersive experiences
Step into an immersive exploration of life’s final journey at Alongside’s booth at the S+ Summit cum Expo 2025. Our showcase offers a one-of-a-kind experiential life-journey using cutting-edge technology and real-life simulations to inspire conversations about autonomy, dignity, and end-of-life planning.
Unique Features:
1. High-Fidelity Medical Simulation: Experience end-of-life scenario in a hospital setting with authentic hospital equipment and VR technology, providing a first-person perspective on life-sustaining treatments such as intubation, chest compressions, and defibrillation.
2. Coffin Lying Experience: In collaboration with Kowloon Funeral Parlour, participants can engage in a powerful, symbolic funeral simulation, lying inside a coffin with personalized audio reflections on their life journey.
Building on the emotions and reflections evoked by the life-journey simulation, we seize the opportunity to promote Alongside’s services and educational initiatives, which include:
- Advance Medical Directive Simulation (AMDS): A pioneering workshop innovated by Alongside utilises high-fidelity simulation to provide realistic end-of-life scenarios. This innovative approach is the first of its kind in Hong Kong, offering participants an immersive experience that educate both the general public and healthcare professionals about AMDs and inclusive healthcare practices.
- Advance Contract: A collaborative service by Alongside and Kowloon Funeral Parlour, offering a comprehensive bundle of Will, Advance Medical Directives, and Advance Funeral Planning. This service provides peace of mind and ensures autonomy over medical, estate, and funeral decisions—at the end of life and beyond.
Through immersive simulative experience, we aim to promote the concept of “lifelong autonomy” through stepwise approach, utilising existing legal tools and new collaborative products to respect one’s own wish at the end of life and beyond. This is particularly important for the LGBTQIA+ community who faces unique challenges in their final journey, from legal barriers to social exclusion.
