Children's Thalassaemia Foundation
Exhibitor Detail:
The booth will introduce thalassaemia and its prevalence in Hong Kong, including the symptoms, treatments, and cures for thalassemia patients. In recent years, treatments such as haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and even the latest gene therapy have been used to cure thalassaemia. However, the cost of these treatments might not be affordable for most families. Therefore, the Foundation organizes fundraising activities to raise funds to support patients in receiving treatment, vocational training, and other physical and mental wellness activities.
Collaborative Projects with Partners:
• Support and participate in the Foundation's fundraising activities.
• Co-organize various types of fundraising events to support thalassemia patients.
• Arrange thalassaemia awareness seminars at partner companies to introduce thalassaemia and to prevent the birth of babies with severe thalassaemia.
• Enhance understanding of thalassaemia to eliminate discrimination from employers and encourage them to employ thalassaemia patients, as well as reduce biases among colleagues.
• Organize blood donation drives with partner companies, as patients with severe thalassaemia rely on monthly blood transfusions to sustain their lives.
• Participants can simulate receiving an iron-chelating injection on their abdomen to experience the daily iron-removal treatment that thalassaemia patients undergo.
