Illuminating the City: Building an Inclusive Community Together The Vocational Training Council (VTC), as Hong Kong's largest vocational and professional education and training (VPET) provider. The VTC Community Engagement Unit was established in 2022 with a view to further leveraging the professional skills and knowledge of VTC students to contribute to the community through student projects, services, and community activities. VTC collaborates across sectors with social welfare organisations, government departments, and businesses, working hand-in-hand with the younger generation to address various community challenges. Highlights of Projects to be showcased: THEi x SHINE Fashion Accessories Design Competition: Members of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), and Shine Skills Centre (SHINE), collaborated for this initiative. Students and academic staff from THEi fashion design programme created stylish accessories using discarded materials, which were then produced by SHINE trainees. This partnership aims to build a more inclusive and harmonious environment by combining students' professional knowledge with practical experience. Multi-functional Learning Kit: HKDI students, in partnership with the Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, visited subdivided flat families to understand the challenges and learning needs of children living in these cramped conditions. They tailor-made furniture to support the learning of underprivileged children. The project has entered the mass production phase, supported by Lu Foundation, and the kits will soon be distributed to families in need.
