InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports), in collaboration with its lead advocacy partner CTFE Social Solutions, a philanthropic arm of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, has commissioned the HKU research team, to conduct a territory-wide longitudinal study on physical activity levels among primary and secondary school students since 2019. Data from 2023-2024 reveals that only approximately 8% of school children in Hong Kong are able to meet the physical activity standards set by the World Health Organisation, which requires children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 to accumulate at least a daily average of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activities (MVPA60) throughout the week. Given the active promotion of the "MVPA60" recommendation within educational sector, IHKSports has renamed the annually released “MVPA60” data as the "MVPA60HK Indicator" to enhance comprehension and collaboration among various sectors and the public in enhancing physical activity levels among students in Hong Kong. A series of pilot projects has been launched to encourage schools, families and corporates to join hands in promoting the “MVPA60HK Indicator.” The goal is to double this indicator to 16% in five years’ time (by 2030).
