The sudden emergence of critical events may not only cause casualties, but also psychological trauma. The Psychological Support Service of the Hong Kong Red Cross and over 200 psychological first aid volunteers are committed to provide timely psychological first aid services to people affected by critical events with an aim of reducing the initial emotions and distress and providing the public with psychological education. In 2022, the Psychological Support Service Volunteer was awarded Outstanding Volunteer Group in the Hong Kong Volunteer Award, which was jointly organized by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Agency for Volunteer Service.
