Description(s):
“Project MOVE*” (An education Program for Children and Youth living in SDU)
* M – Motivation, O – Opportunity, VE – We together
Needs:
- According to the 2016 by-census, nearly 210,000 people live in subdivided flats with a per capita area of 62.4 square feet, and 37,000 of them were children and adolescents under the age of 15. A poor living environment will greatly impact the academic learning and holistic development of children and youth, especially for those who are from low-income families living in subdivided flats in Hong Kong.

Solutions:
(1) Barrier to the children and youth: “Lack of space”
Solution: Bring them out of their home
Activities: Recreational and explorational outings with the support of volunteers
(2) Barrier to the children and youth: “Lack of opportunities”
Solution: Provide quality academic learning and development activities
Activities: Academic enhancement and character developmental groups

Program Uniqueness:
(1) Using the Character Counts! approach with the help of board games as tools in developmental groups, HOPE worldwide has been using this approach and tools for our education programs since 2007.
(2) Using board games as teaching tools in academic learning groups
(3) Volunteers will accompany the children and youth to learn and explore as a “Big Brother and Big Sister”
